Phil Mickelson has established himself as one of the most talented and beloved professional golfers of his era. Today his contribution to the game will be memorialized by induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Mickelson will be joined by fellow inductees Sandy Lyle, Hollis Stacy, Peter Alliss and Dan Jenkins at the ceremony in St.  Augustine, Fla. The ceremony is held each year at the start of The Players Championship.

Individuals are selected for the honor through a PGA tour voting process. Mickelson received 72 percent of the vote, the highest percentage a player has earned since Greg Norman was inducted with an 80 percent vote in 2001.

"It seems Phil has been destined for this honor for some time," said PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. "From his days as one of world's premier amateur players to his seamless transition to professional star, Phil has always performed at the highest levels of the sport and this recognition is well deserved."

Callaway, a Mickelson sponsor, released a statement saying: "Phil has been one of golf’s strongest ambassadors, always interacting with fans and signing autographs well after he’s finished his round. Fans love the way he treats them like his own, how he enjoys the game and how he embraces challenging shots and pressure situations."
