Rather than stop play, Holmqvist used a tee to scrape out the venom and went on to finish the round.

“It was not the best-looking thing I’ve done,” Holmqvist told Svensk Golf, “but I had to get as much out of me as I could.”

The rookie golfer compared the bite to being stabbed in the ankle by a knife. Black widow bites are dangerous and can be fatal, but Holmqvist refused medical attention and insisted she felt well enough to continue play.

Her final score of 74 was 4 strokes over the qualifying limit for the LPGA’s season-opening ISPS Honda Australian Open.
